Discuss even more about everything PSP & Playstation related on our forums! - (1) Posts
Given the fact that we live in a connected world, where access to the internet and various online services has become practically indispensable for a certain category of devices, a large number of the various portable gadgets that arrive on the market nowadays tend to enable, in some sort, such functionalities. That’s also the case with Sony’s most recent portable gaming console, the PSP Go, whose latest firmware update (v6.10) will enable quite a few interesting features, including here support for tethering via Bluetooth.

All in all, we can really say that PSP Go owners will have a blast with this firmware update, which, however, is not yet available, albeit the company does promise that it should arrive “soon.”

Hence, by applying the respective firmware update, PSP Go owners will enjoy the ability to use a Bluetooth mobile device, such as a mobile phone, as a modem to connect their PSP system to the Internet. This means that when you’re not located close to a WiFi spot, you have another way to get on the Internet via a Bluetooth mobile device.

Sony PSP Go

As mentioned above, this will not be the only important improvement brought about by firmware version 6.10. For example, another cool new feature will provide access to the SensMe channels, a music application for PSP (borrowed from the Walkman family) that uses Sony’s proprietary 12 Tone Analysis technology to evaluate music tracks that have been imported from the Media Go application.

And since we’re on the subject, we also have to mention that the Media Go application (v1.2) will be updated with a new look and enhanced functionality. Those of you not familiar with MediaGo should know that we’re talking about a software app for PCs that allows users to organize and transfer music, photos and videos between one’s PC and the PSP. It also permits users to access the PlayStation Store and to purchase, backup and restore PSP games.

Sony has officially moved into the next generation of hand held gaming with the new PSP Go.

No longer will gamers have to carry around easily broken, tiny discs known as PSP UMDs. That’s right, discs are a thing of the past.

Personally, I believe this is great. I get sick of carrying around cases of discs just to play games, movies, or music.

Not to mention PSP UMDs are so tiny that they’re easily lost or even cracked and scratched. Now will Sony move this concept on to console systems in the future? Probably not.

But it is a fantastic idea for mobile gaming. The new Sony PSP Go is an awesome gaming machine.

So how do you get games for it?

You can now get games through PSP Go downloads. And don’t think that you have to worry about space to store them, either. The PSP Go comes stock with 16GB of internal memory. And you can add a memory card to your handheld to bring it up to a massive 32GB.

That’s tons of room to store your brand new PSP Go game downloads, music, movies, and much more.

The Sony PSP Go is finally here. Released on October 1st, 2009 in America and November 1st in Japan.

The PSP Go features built-in Wi-Fi, but no longer uses a standard USB A-to-Mini-B cable common with many devices. A new proprietary multi-use connector is used for USB connectivity. A suitable USB cable will be included with the unit. The new multi-use connector allows for charging and USB similar to previous units, but also allows video and sound output with the same connector (with optional Composite AV cable and Component AV cable), unlike previous offerings which had TV OUT functionality on a separate port to the USB port. Sony will also be offering an optional cradle for charging and USB data transfer on the PSP Go, similar to previous offerings.

The PSP Go adds support for Bluetooth connectivity, enabling the use of compatible Bluetooth headsets and tethering with Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones. This will also enable users to possibly connect and play games using a Sixaxis or DualShock 3 PlayStation 3 controller or Bluetooth headset. There are also demo games inside the PSP Go.
